CHARACTER INFORMATION:
Name: Dr. Daniel Jackson
Age: 34
Hair: Dirty blonde
Eyes: Blue
Build: Average. Not overly fit, seeing as he spends much of his time surrounded by books and artifacts.
Strengths and talents: Is a talented linguist. He speaks more than twenty three languages including his native English, Ancient Egyptian, Spanish, Russian, Mandarin Chinese and German.
Weaknesses: He has crippling allergies that tend to act up, especially when he travels. It takes him a while to adapt to new places.
Occupation: Daniel has PhD's in archeology, anthropology, and philology. Needless to say, most of his life was dedicated purely to his education.
History: (Taken from Wikipedia)
Dr. Daniel Jackson is an only child and an orphan. His parents, Melbourne and Claire Jackson, also archaeologists, were crushed while overseeing a piece of Egyptian art being placed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York. His grandfather, who had Daniel call him "Nick" rather than Grandpa, abandoned him after the funeral and he was left in foster care but apparently either reconnected with his grandfather or kept in touch with him over the years. He visited his grandfather in a mental institution until they had an argument and Nick told Daniel to leave. The argument was over Daniel's failing career. His books speculating on crosspollinization of civilizations and possible alien involvement got him all but laughed out of Academia. He lost his research grants and was evicted from his apartment.
(The following is adapted for IJatFoY)
Currently, Daniel is employed (in the loosest sense of the word) at Barnett College, working as an aide to the archeology department. It is little more than a glorified desk job and is, quite frankly, a bit insulting to his intelligence, but given the status of his name in the field, he currently has little other choice. He attempts to make the best of it by putting his name out to do freelance archeology research and translations. He spends most of his time in his office working on whatever projects he has managed to acquire.
Personality: Sometimes Daniel can come off as being a little socially awkward, but he is still very friendly. He is easily excited by ancient texts and anything involving his life's passion- trying to find the true origins of civilizations. He is incredibly hard working and has been known to dive head first into a project, nearly forgetting that time is passing around him. He is loyal, curious, and if the situation calls for it, he can think surprisingly quick on his feet.
Appearance: Daniel stands at about 5'10" tall and is of average build. He wears his hair on the long and shaggy side, mostly because it just isn't an active concern of his. Due to his poor eyesight, he wears his wire rimmed glasses all the time; he's nearly blind without them. He holds himself in a casual manner, even when he gives lectures, often leaning over the podium as he speaks or even speaking with his back turned as he writes or points things out on a board. He's also known to accent his speech with gesticulations of his hands.
Relationship History: None really to speak of. He's been quite fond of a few women before, but he's too wrapped up in his work to bother pursuing something. And if any women have liked him, he has been more or less oblivious.
Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Turn ons: Intelligence, honesty, loyalty
Turn offs: Overbearing types, lack of the above
Allies: Anne McCoy, Dr. Henry Jones Jr., Marcus Brody
Enemies: Those to choose to discredit his work simply by his reputation, those who endanger the people close to him
Things most likely to do in spare time: Research- preferably for his own studies, but he often fills even his spare time with freelance work; spend time with Anne; write
